We’ve got a busy 11-game schedule coming up in the NHL today, stretching from the early afternoon all the way into the wee hours. As we do every day, let’s take a look at some of the hot-topic players out there before we get settled in for today’s games.

John Tavares, C, New York Islanders: Tavares came up big-time when it mattered most last night, posting two goals and an assist in his team’s 3-2 overtime victory against the Devils.
Tavares’ second goal was the game-winner, potted with 1:55 left in the extra period. He now has 19 goals and three in overtime, which leads the league.
The Isles move to 27-13-1 with the win while Jersey falls to 15-21-8.

Tyler Bozak, C, Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs needed a big win last night, and they got one against the visiting Blue Jackets. Bozak scored and had an assist in the 5-2 victory, while his teammate James van Riemsdyk had two goals and a helper of his own.
The Leafs put an end to their three-game losing streak with this one and now stand at 22-17-3 on the season. It was the first win under interim coach Peter Horachek.

Jonathan Huberdeau, LW, Florida Panthers: Huberdeau was one of six players to record a goal for the panthers last night in Calgary against the Flames, and the result was a 6-5 victory that very easily could have gone either way. He also had an assist in the win.
TJ Brodie had two goals and Lance Bouma posted three assists in the losing effort.
The win sends Florida to 19-11-9 while the Flames fall to 21-18-3 heading into their game today.

Derek Roy, C, Edmonton Oilers: Edmonton is quietly putting together quite a run of games, and that was evident last night at home against he Blackhawks. The Oilers took the game 5-2 on the strength of Roy’s goal and two assists. Nail Yakupov also had a goal and an assist of his own.
Brandon Saad scored twice for Chicago in the losing effort.
Edmonton is now 3-1-2 in their last six games and seems to be playing better under new coach Todd Nelson.
