The Calgary Flames have taken a turn for the worse over the last month or so as they went from being the talk of the league and a lock to make the playoffs to sitting in fifth place in their division and on the outside looking in and it leaves us wondering which version is the real deal? The Flames to me are a team that greatly overachieved through the first month of the season but they also aren't as bad as they have been playing over the last four weeks and should be sitting in and around where they are in terms of league and division standing. Calgary has a lot of young players and rely a lot on their blue line for production and while that isn't always a bad thing is forced head coach Bob Hartley to have a discussion with forward Sean Monahan about his offensive obligations indicating that the Flames are looking for their go to guys to step up. Jonas Hiller is expected to get the call between the pipes as he will go up against Ryan Miller.
The Canucks meanwhile are coming off a loss to the Florida Panthers much like the Calgary Flames are but theirs came a day earlier with familiar face Roberto Luongo back in town. Vancouver is hands down the better team but it was a clear cut context win for us and the Panthers as they went in to Rogers Arena and left with a huge win for their goaltender who was brilliant in his return to the city. The Canucks though should get back on track here as I think they are the better of the two teams and while I think Calgary is better than this line indicates and after a barn burner last night with the Cats I do this one being much lower scoring which could play into Calgary’s favour. Ultimately, I think the Canucks will be too much and should have enough in the tank to get the win and prevent Calgary from grabbing any points.
