There were just three NHL games on the schedule yesterday, and we’ve got that same amount coming our way this evening. While we’re waiting on those pucks to drop, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations happening around the league this morning in our daily wrap-up.
Roberto Luongo, G, Florida Panthers: The Panthers got a team-wide effort yesterday against the Oilers, and the result was a 4-2 victory at Rexall Place in Edmonton. Luongo had a solid game, stopping 31 of 33 shots for his 27th career win against the Oilers.
Four different Panthers scored in thisone: Hayes, Campbell, Kopecky and Bergenheim. Florida is now 20-11-9 on the season.
Meanwhile, the Oilers fall to 10-24-9.

Marian Hossa, RW, Chicago Blackhawks: It was a solid home game last night for the Blackhawks, who put up a nice 4-1 win over the Wild at United Center. Marian Hossa, Bryan Bickell and Brad Richards each posted a goal and an assist. In the net, Corey Crawford held it down on 36 saves on 37 shots.
Chicago is now 28-13-2 and coming off a grueling stretch in the schedule. They’ll hold off on practicing until Wednesday and won’t hit the ice again until Friday.
Richard Rakell, C, Anaheim Ducks: Teemu Selanne got his number retired in Anaheim last night, and the Ducks responded with a shootout win over the Jets. Rakell helped the team rally from a 4-2 deficit to tie it up before regulation ended, and Sami Batanen netted the winner in the shootout.
The Ducks are now 27-10-6 and are 21-0-6 in one-goal games. That’s the best mark in the NHL.
The Jets, meanwhile, fall to 21-14-8 and will slap their heads over losing leads in this one.
