Philadelphia Flyers vs. Vancouver Canucks - 1/15/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Vancouver Canucks have dropped three games in a row and it is no coincidence that they have also been without starting goaltender Ryan Miller who was battling flu like symptoms but they should get him back tonight here against the Flyers. Vancouver's mini slide has them in fourth place in the Pacific division as the Kings jumped over them in the standings but they are still right in the mix as the Pacific is log jammed right now and will likely come down to the wire aside from the Ducks who look like they're going to run away with the division title. Vancouver is having a nice rebound season after a year of misery last year and Miller is enjoying his new digs as he sports an impressive 20-9-1 record and a 2.48 goals against average – something he wasn't able to put up in his final seasons in Buffalo based on the team around him. Ray Emery will likely counter for Philadelphia after Steve Mason got the call last night in Washington.

The Flyers at the time of writing are trailing the Capitals by a 1-0 score line thanks to another special outing from Braden Holtby but they get right back to the ice tonight to face a Canucks team who has been struggling of late. Philly is in a state of limbo right now as they are all but eliminated from winning the Metro division and are still a ways behind in the wild card race but aren't out of it by any means but if the teams in front of them continue to win and the Flyers can't generate any sense of urgency than it could be a long offseason filled with change instead of a postseason berth. Ray Emery has had a decent season between the pipes but it is clear he is the backup in Philly and his numbers reflect that but after a tough outing last night the Flyers could be prime for a great showing at home against a Canucks team who played over their heads a bit to start the season. Either way I think we see some goals in this one especially if Miller is still feeling the effects of the flu and to me this one could see the goal output reached after 40 minutes.
