The Columbus Blue Jackets' season of misery continued on home ice last night as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the visiting New York Rangers and now they must refocus as they head into Boston to take on the red hot Bruins. Columbus had aspirations of not only making the playoffs this season but perhaps making an impact in the Eastern Conference but things haven't gone their way and now they have to go on the road to take on one of the hottest teams in hockey with their backup goalie in net. The jackets have had a tough go on the road this season with a 9-9-1 mark and take on the Bruins who have been lights out at home with a 15-6-4 record in what is surely a mismatch on paper and likely on the scoreboard as well. Sergein Bobrovsky is expected to get the call but don't be surprised if they give him the night off while Tuukka Rask will go for the B's.
Boston had a hiccup in the middle of their season to date but they have really come along of late and are right back in the fold in the Atlantic division which is surely giving the rest of the division nightmares. This is still an elite level team that will surely be in the race for the Eastern Conference title come playoff time and the Atlantic and the rest of the league should be scared of a Bruins team finding its stride especially with Rask playing top notch at the moment. As mentioned, Boston is lights out at home and catch the Blue Jackets in the second half of a back to back with travel time built in and this shapes up to be a tough spot for the Jackets on a good day let alone given these circumstances. I think the Bruins coast here and taking them in regulation is a pretty safe play.
