Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs - 1/21/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the midst of an ugly losing skid in which they have dropped five games in a row and eight of their last 10 overall leaving them in sixth place in the Atlantic, at .500, and just two points up on the Senators. Toronto fans have grown tiresome of the losing and have resorted once again to displaying their frustration by throwing jerseys onto the ice, and that now has taken a turn for the worse as the culprits have been hit with legal action. The whole scene is a mess in Leafs Nation right now and things don't appear to be getting any better though a trip to Ottawa could cure their woes as they will surely have a ton of fans on deck as they always do in the Canadian capital. Jonathan Bernier, who was pulled against the Hurricanes, will be back between the pipes as he will go up against Robin Lehner as Craig Anderson got the call last night.

The Sens meanwhile continue their disappointing season tonight a day after dropping on overtime contest at MSG against the Rangers and the loss keeps them in second to last place in the division and 11 points back of the Bruins for the final wild card spot in the East. The Senators have some rebuilding to do but aren't too far off from getting back to relevance as they have some great pieces in place and some budding prospects on the way but just need some time to get everyone on the same page and unfortunately for them it might take the rest of this season and some of next before they hit their stride again. Craig Anderson has asserted himself as the man in the Ottawa crease as Robin Lehner hasn't played well enough to create a goaltending controversy and while he may be the future he certainly hasn't played like it but he will have a shot at redemption in this one. While I think the Leafs are in a state of turmoil right now they have to break out of it at some point and I think a good spot is away from home against a team they're familiar with and this just seems like the perfect spot for the Leafs to right the ship... or at least start to.
