Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild - 1/27/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Wild have been one of the league's biggest disappointments this season as they have gone from a Western Conference favourite to risking not making the playoffs at all as they sit at .500 through 46 games and are seven points back of the Flames for the final wild card spot. Minnesota has a very solid roster but they have had to deal with a handful of injuries and their goaltending situation forced them into making a trade for Devan Dubnyk who could take over the team's number one if Darcy Kuemper doesn't take it back after his rehab starts. Minny has dominated the Oilers over the years and should feel confident heading into Edmonton but the Oil did win back to back games heading into the all-star break and will be playing with a nothing to lose mentality as the trade deadline approaches and if things stay the way they are we could see both of these teams heavily involved on March 2nd. Dubnyk is expected to get the start as he will go up against Ben Scrivens.

Edmonton is in the midst of another lost season and this one stings more than ever as expectations were sky high this season and many predicted a playoff berth but instead they sit in the basement of the Western Conference and will have yet another top end draft pick in July. The Oilers are a mess and have already moved some pieces out of town and it is quick to see just how much of a difference a change of scenery makes as David Perron is thriving in Pittsburgh (though it is tough not to with that roster) and the Oilers continue to struggle. Edmonton will likely fire sale in hopes of landing the top pick they are competing with Buffalo for and I think with Minnesota's desperation, Dubnyk being back in town, and Edmonton unsure of who will stay or go that the Wild get an easy win here.
