The Blues and Predators meet up in St. Louis on Thursday with the home side looking to chase down the Preds in the Central division standings.

St. Louis Blues vs. Nashville Predators - NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Nashville Predators have been the talk of the league this season as they have gone from missing the playoffs last year to threatening to win the President's Trophy this season but it'll be interesting to see how they play now that they are without Pekka Rinne. The Preds sit atop the Central division and lead the Blues by five points and while there is plenty of hockey left to be played it is safe to assume that with the start the Preds had this season they are a shoe in to make the playoffs and if they can just tread water until their MVP returns they should be in decent shape. The Preds have been ridiculous on home ice this season but are 12-8-4 on the road so if there is any flaw with this team you can point to their record outside of Nashville but even sitting four games above .500 on the road isn't bad and it is very tough to find anything wrong with the way Nashville has played this season. The Preds will lean on Carter Hutton here and he will go up against Brian Elliott.

The Blues head into Thursday night's tilt playing their first game since the all-star break and they'll look to take things out on the Predators and close the gap in the Central division standings. St. Louis is a team to watch out for as they have the depth to go up against anybody in the league and they brought in a veteran presence in the form of Marcel Goc from the Pittsburgh Penguins but don't think for a second that the Blues are done there as I expect they will be quite active in their pursuit of adding another piece at the trade deadline. The Blues have developed a ton of secondary scoring this season which to me is there main difference from the team over the last couple of seasons and now with Paul Stastny in the mix I see this being a very tough team to play against in a seven game series. As for tonight though it is just a one game set and with the conditions being what they are I think the Blues get a big win here as Elliott gets the nod over Hutton and St. Louis to me is the better team.
