NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
February 2, 2015
We’re in the midst of a quiet stretch for the NHL right now, as there were just four games yesterday and three today. Still, we’ve got some nice matchups on the slate, so with that in mind let’s check out some of the key players making headlines in our daily wrap-up.
Lauri Korpikoski, LW, Arizona Coyotes: Down 0-2 early, the Coyotes had to fight back to secure a win over the Canadiens last night at Bell Centre. They were able to do that thanks mostly to Korpikoski, who bagged a pair of power-play goals on the way to a 3-2 Coyotes win.
Alex Galchenyuk scored twice for Montreal in the losing effort.
Arizona moves to 18-26-6 with the win and has won two of three. Montreal falls to 32-14-3.

Alexander Steen, LW, St. Louis Blues: This was a good matchup heading in, and it lived up to its billing. The Blues were able to overcome the Capitals yesterday at Verizon Center, posting a 4-3 victory.
Steen stepped up with two goals and an assist, badly needed with Lehtera, Berglund and Shattenkirk fighting injuries and Backes ejected.
Alexander Ovechkin posted two goals and an assist as well for the Caps.
Carter Hutton, G, Nashville Predators: Hutton posted a shutout yesterday over the Penguins at Consol Energy Center, bagging 21 saves in a 4-0 victory. Roman Josi added some offense with a goal and an assist.
This was a nice turnaround for Nashville, who was coming off the losing end of a shutout themselves. They’re now 32-11-6 and tied atop the West.
Zach Parise, LW, Minnesota Wild: There were some bumps in the road along the way to the Wild’s 4-2 victory over Vancouver at Rogers Arena yesterday, but all in all they played pretty well. Parise bagged a goal in the win, and net-minder Devan Dubnyk put up 35 saves overall.
Minnesota is now 23-20-6 and has been 5-1-1 since the Dubnyk trade. They’re now within five points of a playoff spot.
