San Jose Sharks vs. Edmonton Oilers - 2/2/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Oilers looked as though they were going to play their way back to respectability in the second half of the season after they upended the Sabres and held a 2-0 lead on the road against the hated Calgary Flames on Saturday but a four goal outburst from Calgary put an end to that pipe dream and now they head into San Jose without any momentum. The Oilers certainly were not going to make a push towards the playoffs and while fans can still be happy they are in the running for the Connor McDavid sweepstakes I bet you a fair share of them would rather this team start trending in the right direction even in a lost season rather than float around the basement for a chance at getting the next big thing. Edmonton has been in this position for what seems like the last 10 years and it'll be interesting to see whether they sell the farm at the trade deadline and rebuild completely or whether they try to grab some prospects and add to their group moving into next year. Ben Scrivens is expected to get the start in this one as he will go up against Antii Niemi.

The Sharks are coming off arguably their best game of the season as the blanked the Blackhawks by a 2-0 final in San Jose on Saturday night as Niemi got the shutout against his former team. San Jose has won three straight and sit three points up on the Canucks for second in the division and while the Pacific crown is basically locked up by the Ducks those two teams will compete to the end for that second seed as it would determine home ice advantage in the first round, though with the Sharks it doesn't seem to matter any more. San Jose are huge favourites here and rightfully so and while the Oilers have been competitive against the Sharks over the years I think San Jose is well aware of that trend and won't take Edmonton lightly. No other choice here than the puck line for San Jose.
