Two of the league's best meet up in St. Louis on Tuesday night in what could very well be a preview of this season's Stanley Cup Final.
USA TODAY Sports
The Lightning head into St. Louis on Tuesday night looking to win their third game in a row and their eighth in their last 10 overall and hold on to their Eastern Conference and Atlantic division lead. Tampa Bay has been a team on the rise over the last few seasons and could very well have been the team to beat last season if not for Steven Stamkos' injury but he and the team have come back with a vengeance this season and are certainly in the conversation as Stanley Cup contenders. The Bolts boast the game's best offensive attack and they'll need it against the Blues who have been stifling on defense all season long and with St. Louis in the midst of a division race themselves we can be sure this will be a hard fought game between two evenly matched teams looking to make a serious push towards the playoffs. Ben Bishop is expected to get the call in goal as he will go up against Brian Elliott.
The Blues have been rock solid all season, have won five games in a row, and are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games putting them in second place in the Central division and just two points back of the Predators for top spot. St. Louis was dealt a serious blow though as stand out defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will miss a few weeks after having abdominal surgery and while the Blues have the depth to fill the void Shattenkirk is irreplaceable and will certainly be missed. Brian Elliott has emerged as the starter for the Blues as he and Jake Allen have been battling all season long but it looks as though Elliott will get the call here and give St. Louis a chance to match up with the Lightning in what should be a very exciting contest. The line on this one remains to be released as we await starters and adjusting for injury and even with Shattenkirk out it is tough to bet against the Blues especially at home. I'm backing St. Louis here.
