February 7, 2015
We’ve got a very busy 11-game set coming up in the NHL today, and it begins this afternoon. While we’re waiting on all those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats from around the league in the headlines this morning.
Cory Schneider, G, New Jersey Devils: The Devils made short work of the Maple Leafs last night at Prudential Center, cruising to a 4-1 victory. Schneider anchored the defensive effort, posting 34 saves on 35 shots.
Also of major note, center Patrik Elias scored his 400th NHL goal in the second period, becoming the 91st player in history to reach that impressive milestone.
New Jersey is now 21-22-9.

Nick Foligno, LW, Columbus Blue Jackets: If the Jackets could play like this every game, who knows what they’d be capable of. They dismantled the Blues last night at Nationwide Arena, ending St. Louis’ seven-game win streak with a dominant 7-1 victory.
Foligno posted two goals and an assist, while Ryan Johansen managed a goal and two helpers. Curtis McElhinney put up 32 saves on 33 shots.
The Jackets move to 22-25-3 while St. Louis falls to 34-14-4.
Patrick Kane, RW, Chicago Blackhawks: The lone game decided in overtime last night belonged to the Blackhawks and Jets. Brandon Saad ended the game with just under two minutes remaining in the extra period for a 2-1 victory and a win after two consecutive losses. Kane logged a goal and an assist in a nice effort.
The Jets have now lost six games in a row at 0-4-2. Chicago is 32-18-2 on the season and is 9-2 in OT.
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Crosby had a strong game for the Penguins last night, and the result was a 4-0 victory at Scotiabank Saddledome against the Flames. He put up two goals and an assist, and Chris Kunitz also helped out with three assists of his own. Marc-Andre Fleury logged the shutout on 21 saves.
The Penguins are 30-14-8 and the Flames move to 29-21-3.
