Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Edmonton Oilers - 2/7/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Oilers have had a frustrating season since the puck dropped in October as the franchise continues to struggle with the rebuilding process and with another coach biting the dust and trades shifting the team's landscape it is clear this is another losr year in Oil Country. However, the Oilers have done a good job of late trying to build towards a positive future and have played much better in the last couple of weeks and while they are light years from the postseason and basically locked into another top three draft pick it is nice to see some progress happening. The Oilers head into Toronto to take on a Leafs team that has reached double digits in losses and are coming off a 4-1 decision yesterday against the Devils and if the Leafs fail to show up in this one against one of the league's worst teams than the blue and white jerseys could paste the entire surface of the ice by the night's end. Former Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens will likely get the start here as he will go up against Jonathan Bernier.

The Maple Leafs have been dreadful over the last month or so and have lost some pretty bad games to some very bad teams and last night was no different as they were dominated by an aging Devils team that is now three points up on the Buds. Toronto has basically written this season off at this point at least from the fan's perspective and now the burning question remains whether or not they should blow things up and move some of their core pieces to acquire assets and picks or whether they need to reassess the direction of the team off the ice. Either way it is a painful time to be a Leafs fan at the moment and to me there is absolutely no reason why they should be favoured like this against anybody right now even if it is the Oilers and add in the fact that Scrivens is playing against the team that gave up on him and Edmonton always plays well on these Eastern Canada trips and I think we have the recipe for an upset here.
