The Dallas Stars are looking to pull out all of the stops in an attempt to not only save their slow start to the season but to get into the Western Conference playoffs and a win on the road against the St. Louis would go a long way in doing so not only in the standings but for their confidence and psyche. The Stars have been much better in the second half of the season but due to the nature and competition level in the Central division and the Western Conference they may be on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason and not having superstar Tyler Seguin definitely hurts as he is still sidelined with an injury sustained after a shot from Pantehrs defeseman Dmitry Kulikov. Dallas will go with Kari Lehtonen as they have many times this season and he will look to out battle Brian Elliott who has been razor sharp for the Blues this season and would garner more attention if not for the time share system in place with Jake Allen.
The Blues have been one of the league's best teams all season but they have really picked up the pace of late as they are winners of three games in a row and 8 of their last 10 overall and with the Predators in their sights sitting just four points up the Blues can make a serious run at winning the division. St. Louis is a very deep team that can beat you in a number of different ways and with the pieces they have on their roster they can afford to move some people around if it means improving their team for a Cup run and come March 2nd they could very well be one of the more active teams. However, the Blues tried that approach last season and brought in Ryan Miller and that failed miserably so to see them stand pat wouldn't surprise too many people but even if they do that they are still very much in the discussion as a Western Conference favourite. The absence of Seguin hurts the Stars and even with him I'm not sure they'd have enough in the tank to keep pace with the Blues and with this one being in St. Louis I think we see another victory for Ken Hitchcock and company.
