The Anaheim Ducks ended their mini two game slide with a convincing win on the road against the Flames last night and now they'll look to make it two in a row to the positive with a victory against lowly yet improving Edmonton Oilers. The win for the Ducks put them back to a double digit lead over the Canucks for top spot in the Pacific division and while it hasn't been a smooth transition for the Ducks moving from Frederik Andersen to John Gibson it seems like the youngster is starting to find his bearings despite giving up at least three goals in all three of his starts since taking over for the injured Andersen. We can expect Gibson to take the night off tonight though as the Ducks will turn to veteran journeyman now full time back up Ilya Bryzgalov who was sent out of town by Edmonton last season and now he will get his chance at retribution much like Devan Dubnyk had last night.
The Oilers have slowly cxome along in the second half of the season but that was brought to an abrupt end last night in a game we forecasted to be completely dominated by Devan Dubnyk and the Wild as a whole. The former Edmonton starting goalie was furious with the way things ended for him in Edmonton and while he has been back in the city as a member of the Arizona Coyotes he was in top form here and you can bet blanking his old team in their barn with a chance at the postseason felt extra special. Edmonton though has responded well under new head coach Todd Nelson and it looks like he is here to stay as he has done wonders with Nail Yakupov and if they can close out the season playing .500 hockey I bet the fans would be ecstatic as they move towards brighter days. This is a tough one to call as both teams are playing in a back to back but there is something about Bryzgalov that you can't trust and while Anaheim is obviously the deeper team here I think Edmonton may have a bit of a spark in this one and have a chance at sending this game to overtime.
