New Jersey looked as though they had turned a corner and were starting to play much better but with an inconsistent couple of weeks and their playoff hopes basically dashed they have now gone into tank mode and have started shipping players out. The Devils need to rebuild as they don't have the roster or the prospects for long term success in this league and despite having one of the more underrated goaltenders in Corey Schneider he can't win games on his own especially how how very few goals the Devils score on a regular basis. New Jersey is second only to the Coyotes in terms of goals scored this season and until they can bring in some young players to add to Adam Henrique and Adam Larsson they are going to struggle in that capacity and it is going to take more than one year to rectify things. Schneider is expected to get the start but we could also see Keith Kinkaid get the call as the Devils are in a back to back.
The Blue Jackets meanwhile continue their disappointing season and with their playoff bid likely shattered as well it'll be interesting to see just what management decides to do with this group and if there are any coveted pieces from playoff contenders. Columbus was a playoff team last season and was expected to do some damage this season because of that but they have been a huge flop and while they may get Sergei Bobrovsky back tonight I don't think it really matters. The Jackets to me are a better team than their record indicates but I wasn't buying into them being a playoff team as they aren't very well balanced and rely too much on Ryan Johansen to perform and both simply haven't done so this season. However, with the Devils having played last night and Kinkaid likely getting the call here I do think Columbus shows up and in a game where they're competing with a division rival I can see them getting up for this one.
