We’ve got just three games on the NHL schedule today, but there should be some very good hockey mixed in there to keep us all entertained. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the headlines this morning.

Let’s take a look at a couple of trades that happened ahead of today’s deadline.
The big one came from the Rangers and Coyotes: New York sent a second-round pick this year, a first-round pick next year, John Moore and a prospect (Anthony Duclair) to the Coyotes yesterday, all in exchange for defenseman Keith Yandle, a fourth-rounder and another player.
Yandle should provide some blue-line offense and power-play chops for the Rangers, two areas they’ve been sorely lacking in. We’ll have to wait and see if the risk pays off.

Also, the Lightning got defenseman Braydon Coburn from Philly today in exchange for Radko Gudas along with first- and third-round picks in this year’s draft.

The Bruins picked up forward Brett Connolly from Tampa early this morning, giving up second-round picks this year and next year in exchange.

Braden Holtby, G, Washington Capitals: Now let’s hit the scoreboard and check out a couple of yesterday’s results. Holtby tossed a shutout in goal for the Caps yesterday, logging 32 saves in a 4-0 win over the Maple Leafs.
Alex Ovechkin provided the offense as usual, collecting two more goals and an assist. He now has 41 scores on the season, leading the NHL.

Evgeni Malkin, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Not to be outdone, Malkin also had two goals and an assist in his team’s 5-3 win over the Blue Jackets at Consol Energy Center last night.
Malkin has been on fire lately, posting three straight three-point games.
The win brings Pittsburgh to 36-17-9 on the season while the Jackets fall to 26-32-4.
