After a busy 10-game set in the NHL last night, the league is easing off the proverbial gas pedal just a bit this evening, with four games on tap. While we’re waiting on those games to get going, let’s take a look at some of the key players everyone’s talking about this morning.

Alex Ovechkin, LW, Washington Capitals: It seems like every time he’s on the ice, Ovechkin is finding the net these days. He posted two more goals against the Blue Jackets last night in a 5-3 win at Nationwide Arena, giving him 43 scores on the year. That mark is best in the league.
On the other side, Scott Hartnell also scored twice and added an assist.
The Capitals are now 35-20-10 on the season.

Peter Holland, C, Toronto Maple Leafs: Holland got to play the hero last night against the Panthers, scoring the game-winning goal for a 3-2 victory. The score helped Toronto end a 16-game road losing streak, which was a franchise record.
The strange thing here was that the Panthers lost not one but two goalies here. Al Montoya came on for Roberto Luongo, then Montoya was hurt and Luongo returned.

Jakob Silfverberg, RW, Anaheim Ducks: Silfverberg scored a nifty goal last night against the Coyotes and also added two assists. His efforts helped his team to a 4-1 victory.
Also of note: goalie Frederik Anderson got his 50th win in 68 tries, which is the fastest since the 1944-45 season.
The Ducks are now tied with the Predators for the best record in the NHL at 41-17-7.

Matt Nieto, LW, San Jose Sharks: Nieto had a great game last night against the Canucks, collecting a pair of goals and an assist in a 6-2 win at Rogers Arena.
The Sharks chased goalie Jacob Markstrom early, beating him on three of four shots.
San Jose is now 32-25-8 and within three points of Vancouver for the second spot in the Pacific.
