It’s been a full weekend of NHL hockey so far, and it’ll conclude with seven more games today. The action starts early this afternoon, so before we get settled in let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the news this morning.

Brayden Schenn, C, Philadelphia Flyers: Schenn was the big contributor to the Flyers’ offensive barrage yesterday against the Red Wings in Philly. He posted two goals and an assist in the team’s 7-2 blowout win, answering the call for forward depth.
Wayne Simmonds was brilliant here as usual, logging a goal and two assists. Claude Giroux also chipped in with two helpers.
Philly moves to 29-27-14 with the win, 10 points back from the Wild Card slots.

Tuukka Rask, G, Boston Bruins: Rask was on his game yesterday against the Penguins, logging 30 saves in a 2-0 shutout victory at Consol Energy Center.
Pittsburgh wasn’t at full strength here, however, as both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were out of action. Crosby was a late scratch and Malkin was injured during his first shift.
The Bruins move to 36-22-10 with the win and have won five in a row.

Patrick Sharp, LW, Chicago Blackhawks: In another high-scoring barrage, the Blackhawks took care of business on the road against the Sharks at SAP Center, taking it 6-2. Sharp had two of those scores, his first time finding twine in 19 games.
The Blackhawks have won four of their last five and are 41-21-6 on the season. Meanwhile, the Sharks fall to 34-27-8.

Mackenzie Skapski, G, New York Rangers: No Lundqvist, no problem. Skapski loggeed 20 saves against the Buffalo Sabres last night at First Niagara Center, getting his first career NHL shutout in a 2-0 victory. It was his second career win, with the first coming against these same Sabres in February.
Keith Yandle logged a goal in the third and Martin St. Louis put the exclamation point on it with an empty-netter as time wore down. The Rangers have won four in a row and are 43-17-7 now.
