The Sabres have had an atrocious season and while they earned a point at home against the Capitals in a shootout they remain in dead last in the league standings and have a top end draft pick on the brain. Buffalo does have some great young players coming through the system and its almost a guarantee they will have one more coming their way in July as they're poised to land the first or second draft pick which would result in landing Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel. The Sabres are 7-24-3 on the road and after last night's game they dropped to -102 in goal differential – a mark that is 111 goals behind the Bruins who are a plus nine – which isn't a staggering number for a potential playoff team but is obviously miles ahead of where Buffalo stands. Matt Hackett will likely get the start as he will go up against Tuukka Rask.
The Bruins have been playing their best hockey of the season over the last two weeks and they'll look to keep rolling at home against the lowly Sabres in a game they absolutely need to win. Boston sits in fourth place in the Atlantic division and can pretty well kiss any divisional playoff potential goodbye but a wild card spot is certainly in the cards and at the moment they hold a five point edge on the Ottawa Senators for the last spot in the Conference. Boston has found most of its success at home this season and with the Sabres being the Sabres, playing in a back to back with their backup goalie in I don't see how this isn't an absolute train wreck. Boston wins big.
