We’ve got a huge load of NHL games today, starting this afternoon and stretching into the wee hours. Before we get started on today’s 13 matchups, let’s check out some of the notable players out there in the news.
Steve Bernier, RW, New Jersey Devils: Bernier came into this one without a goal in 14 straight games. He came up with two last night against the Sabres to help Jersey to a 3-1 victory at First Niagara Center. Keith Kinkaid backed him up on 28 saves, while Adam Henrique added two assists.
New Jersey is rolling recently, going 10-3-2 in its last 15 to move to 31-29-11 on the season so far.

Ben Bishop, G, Tampa Bay Lightning: Bishop posted a strong outing last night for Tampa Bay, helping his team manage a 3-1 win over the Red Wings at Amalie Arena. He put up 30 saves on 31 shots, and the Lightning are now 3-0-0 against Detroit this year.
Victor Hedman helped out with two assists.
The Lightning are among the elite teams in the league record-wise. They’re two points behind Montreal for first in the Atlantic and East overall. Detroit is 38-21-11 on the year.
Rickard Rakell, C, Anaheim Ducks: Rakell was among the offensive stars for the Ducks last night against the Avalanche at Honda Center. He put up a goal and an assist in the 3-2 win. Corey Perry scored the overtime game winner that put the Ducks over the top.
Anaheim is now 46-20-7 on the season and the first team in the NHL to hit 99 points. Today they leave for a five-game road trip that will span nine days.
