After last night’s heavy slate in the NHL, we’re entering a subdued three-game set tonight. Still, there’s a lot to look forward to this weekend and a lot to talk about this morning. Let’s take our daily look at the key players out there.

Chris Kreider, LW, New York Rangers: The Rangers became the first NHL team to clinch a playoff berth last night after rolling the Senators 5-1 at Canadian Tire Centre.
Kreider posted two goals and an assist in this one, while Dan Boyle added a goal and an assist. Derek Stepan also chipped in with two assists of his own.
This was the first regulation loss for Sens goalie Andrew Hammond, who started his career at 14-0-1.

Patrick Marleau, LW, San Jose Sharks: Marleau managed two goals and an assist last night in the Sharks’ victory over the Red Wings. Logan Couture and Chris Tierney also had a goal and an assist each in the 6-4 win.
The Sharks are now 36-30-8 on the season, while Detroit falls to 39-22-12. They’ve allowed 11 goals in their last two games.

Pekka Rinne, G, Nashville Predators: The Preds took on a solid Lightning team and came out on top last night, taking the lead in the Central Division in the process.
Nashville came out on top 3-2, thanks to a good effort by Rinne, who had 28 saves.
The Predators are now one point ahead of the Blues for first in the Central at 46-21-8. Tampa Bay moves to 46-22-7.

Jarome Iginla, RW, Colorado Avalanche: Iginla scored last night against the Canucks, helping his team keep its playoff hopes alive. Ryan O’Reilly also had a nice game with two assists in the 4-1 victory.
Entering this game the Avs were 10 points behind the Jets for the second Wild Card in the conference. They’ll have to make a great run down the stretch to get in.

Dallas Stars at Edmonton Oilers (SN1, TXA 21)
