Anaheim Ducks vs. Colorado Avalanche - 4/3/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Avalanche have had a disappointing season as they have gone from division champs to missing out on the playoffs altogether and will have to go back to the drawing board as they prepare for year three of the Patrick Roy-Joe Sakic regime in the front office. Colorado has had to deal with a handful of injuries this season and without the services of Semyon Varlamov for as much as they needed him it was clear to see the team would suffer and to be honest I don't think they were successful in finding a replacement for Paul Stastny who bolted for St. Louis in the offseason. As for tonight they have a chance to play spoiler against the Ducks who have their eyes set on top spot in the Western Conference and the President's Trophy.

The Ducks have had a special year and basically had the Pacific wrapped up by Christmas and now they are closing in on the top seed in the West as they lead the Preds by four points with three games remaining. Anaheim won't force their way into meaningless accolades though if it means risking their chance at winning the Stanley Cup and they have already said they may rest some of their ailing players to get geared up for a lengthy Cup run and the name that has been mentioned most is former Canucks forward Ryan Kesler. The American native has enjoyed a great season in this his first with Anaheim and with the depth they have up front it'll be tough to beat them in a seven game set despite having a mediocre +15 goal differential on the season. This is a tough one to call as clearly the Ducks are the better side but they really don't have a ton left to play for but on the other side the Avs have played their way out of the playoff race over the last few games and can't be trusted. I'd suggest going with the total here and I think we see a low scoring affair as Anaheim tries to maintain good habits while Colorado tries to generate some momentum.
