The Chicago Blackhawks end the regular season with a trip to the Pepsi Center to face the Colorado Avalanche.
The Chicago Blackhawks finish the regular season out at the Pepsi Center knowing they will open the postseason on the road after a 2-1 defeat at St Louis on Thursday night that gave the Blues the Central Division crown. The Blues received goals from Paul Stasny and Dnitrij Jaskin to take a 2-0 lead before the Blackhawks made things interesting with Andrew Shaw’s goal at the 2:39 mark of the third but Chicago could not tie the score with Crawford pulled for the extra attacker with just over a minute to play. Corey Crawford took the loss with 23 stops as the Blackhawks suffered loss number three in a row while the victory went to Jake Allen who recorded 21 saves.

The Colorado Avalanche were in the role of spoiler when the Winnipeg Jets paid a visit to the Pepsi Center looking to nail down a spot in the postseason. However in the end the Jets still secured a playoff even though the Avalanche pulled out the 1-0 victory in a shootout. With the Los Angeles losing and Winnipeg picking up a point in defeat they wrapped up a spot in the playoffs for the first time since the 2006-’07 season when they were the Atlanta Thrashers. Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly scored in the shootout with Reto Bera stopping a monster 41 shots. Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler failed to score in the SO although Ondrej Pavelec continued his hot play between the pipes with 21 saves to earn his third consecutive shutout.
The under is 4-0-1 in Blackhawks last 5 versus the Western Conference while the Blackhawks are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Central with the under going 10-2-1 in Blackhawks last 13 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. The under is 2-0-2 in Avalanche last 4 vs. Central and the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 7-1 in Avalanche last 8 Saturday games. Head to head the road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings while the over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Colorado. Not much at stake here except perhaps the competitive spirit but who knows if the Blackhawks play their starters with the playoffs coming and injuries a worry…
