The New York Islanders have had a spectacular rebound season in their final campaign at Nassau Coliseum and while they will get at least two more games in their long time residence that could very well be the last as the Caps look to wrap this one up quickly. The Isles are led of course by John Tavares who finished in second place in league scoring and while there are some great secondary pieces in place the team will go as far as Tavares will take them and he will have to outduel Alexander Ovechkin. The Isles have some so0lid pieces on the blue line as well but they are a bit thin beyond their top pairing and against Washington's lethal power play it could be their downfall as their competition in this series is incredibly fierce. Jaroslav Halak will be the go to guy in the crease and he will go up against Braden Holtby.
It was another poster season for Ovechkin and the Washington offense as they continue to prove they are one of the best in the league up front but their key to success this season has been their revamped blue line and stellar play of Braden Holtby. The Capitals goaltender had one of the most successful under the radar seasons in recent memory and his numbers were very solid and we have already seen he can perform on the big stage as he was a horse for the Caps a couple years back when he was just getting his feet wet. While this has been a nice run for the Isles I think this could be one of the quicker series of the opening round as I think top to bottom the Caps are far too strong and I think they have a legit chance at winning the Eastern Conference. They should have no issues getting the win here in game one.
