Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames - 4/15/15 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Calgary Flames (45-30-7) at Vancouver Canucks (48-29-5)

NHL Hockey: Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 10:00 pm (Rogers Arena)

The Line: Vancouver Canucks -141 / Calgary Flames +128 --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds

The Calgary Flames visit Rogers Arena to take the ice with the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.

For some reason it seems odd to see the Calgary Flames in the postseason but not really when this offense is in a groove and scoring in bunches. I would say the Flames are an efficient offense that takes advantage of scoring opportunities and the numbers spell that out. The Flames are 6th in the game at 2.9 goals but they have done it on 27.5 shots which is 28th. The defense has been a worry at times with 2.6 goals allowed on 29 shots which is 12th so this team does help a bit in keeping pucks away from the net. Jiri Hudler and Sean Monahan are dangerous centers that give the Flames a nice one, two scoring punch with 31 goals apiece while Johnny Gaudreau scored 24 times. Jonas Hiller posted a 2.36 GAA in 52 games with Karri Ramo bringing a 2.60 goals against average in 34 games.

The Vancouver Canucks finished second in the Pacific behind first place Anaheim although the Ducks were pushed more then they liked. The Canucks ended the regular season as winners in three in a row with a bit of a flurry offensively with eleven  goals scored in their last two contests. The Canucks were 8th in scoring with 2.9 goals on just under 30 shots which was 16th. Vancouver allowed 2.7 goals on 29.8 shots to rank 19th and 17th in each department. Daniel and Henrik Sedin led the team in points with 76 and 73 respectively with a combined 38 goals while Radim Vrbata paced the offense with 31 tallies. Ryan Miller and his 2.53 GAA will likely see time in the nets but backup Eddie Lack an his 2.45 goals against.

The Flames are 8-0 in their last 8 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and  are 4-0 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 6-0 in Flames last 6 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The Canucks are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 3 or more days rest and  are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. Pacific while the over is 5-0-2 in Canucks last 7 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game. Head to head the under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings in Vancouver while the Flames are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings in Vancouver and the home team going 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.  I don’t see this as a one sided series and for now I’ll take the plus money…
