The Washington Capitals look to even their series with the New York Islanders on Friday night.
The New York Islanders pulled the first upset of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 4-1 victory at Washington on Wednesday. The trick of course is to duplicate the feat once again with another big effort at both ends of the ice. The teams traded first period goals but it was all New York after that with three unanswered tallies. Brock Nelson was the offensive star with a pair of scores with Ryan Strome and Josh Bailey also scoring. The hero might have been goaltender Jaroslav Halak who stopped 24-25 Capitals shots while surviving a pair of shorthanded situations. The defense deserved some credit as well with Halak facing a mere eight shots in the third period.

The Washington Capitals lost home ice advantage in dropping their opener to the visiting New York Islanders at the Verizon Center. The obvious scenario for the Capitals is to bounce back with a win Friday on home ice to avoid the prospect of going to the Big Apple with a two game hole staring them in the face. The bottom line in the opener was the offense and D had some issues with neither playing a strong game. Marcus Johansson beat Halak in the first to erase a 1-0 deficit but nobody else could solve the Islanders netminder. Braden Holtby was charged with three goals on 26 shots with New York adding an empty netter with over a minute left to send the Verizon Center crowd home unhappy.
The Islanders are 6-1 in their last 7 Friday games and the under is 5-1-1 in Islanders last 7 Friday games while the over is 4-1 in Islanders last 5 Conference Quarterfinals games. The Capitals are 0-5 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record while the over is 4-0-1 in Capitals last 5 vs. Metropolitan and is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. Head to head the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the Islanders are 2-4 in the last 6 meetings in Washington with the under going 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Washington.
