April 19, 2015
We’re heading into the back half of a heavy weekend set in the NHL, and we’ve got four more playoff games to look forward to. Before we settle in for the matchups, let’s check out some of the headline-grabbing players out there.
Tyler Johnson, C, Tampa Bay Lightning: The Red Wings-Lightning series is now tied at one game apiece; the Lightning posted a stellar performance yesterday in Tampa. Johnson put up two goals on six shots in the 5-1 victory at Amalie Arena. Valtteri Filppula, Andrej Sustr and Alex Killorn each scored a goal in the win.
Game 3 moves to Joe Lewis Arena on Tuesday night as the Red Wings try to answer.

Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, St. Louis Blues: The Blues were also able to tie their playoff series against the Wild at 1-1 yesterday, thanks to a 4-1 win at Scottrade Center. Tarasenko put up his first career playoff hat trick on five shots, while goalie Jake Allen put up 24 saves. Alexander Steen collected a pair of assists for his efforts.
Tomorrow night is Game 3, as the series shifts to Minnesota. That one’s at 8 PM ET.
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Crosby had a big game (finally) against the Rangers last night, and it led to a Game 2 victory for the Penguins. He scored two goals in the 4-3 win that saw the Rangers failing on the power play.
Pittsburgh killed off 6-of-7 penalties, giving them a 10-for-12 mark through the first two games.
This series switches to Pittsburgh tomorrow at 7 PM ET.
Jakob Silfverberg, RW, Anaheim Ducks: By all indications, the Ducks and Jets were headed to overtime at a 1-1 tie last night. Then Silfverberg put in his first shot on the net during the last minute of play, giving Anaheim a 2-1 win and a 2-0 edge in the series.
The Jets have now blown two straight leads in the third period; they led 2-1 in the third period of Game 1.
The series moves to MTS Centre tomorrow night.
