The Pittsburgh Penguins return to the Consol Energy Center to battle the New York Rangers in game three Monday.
The New York Rangers were heavy favorites to oust Pittsburgh and advance to the Stanley Cup semifinals but the Penguins have proven to be tougher then thought. The Rangers struggled to control the scoreboard in a 4-3 loss on Saturday as they head to Pittsburgh with the series knotted at a game apiece. The Rangers received goals from Derick Brassard, Derek Stepan and Rick Nash which would normally be enough for the stingy defense and goaltending of Henrik Lundqvist but he was only able to record 18 saves in the loss with the game getting out of hand for the New Yorkers when Pitt scored three times in the second for a 3-1 lead.

The Pittsburgh Penguins might be playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder with many claiming they backed in to the playoffs on the last day of the season. Maybe that’s what was needed as the Rangers have had their hands full. The Penguins finally cracked the airtight Rangers defense Saturday with Sydney Crosby scoring twice with Chris Kunitz and Brandon Sutter each lighting the lamp with Sutter adding a pair of assists. Marc-Andre Fleury picked up the win with a 23 save performance to shock the odds on favorite to win the Stanley Cup. A three goal second was the key and when New York cut the deficit to 3-2 the Pens didn’t fold.
The Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 Monday games and are 7-1 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record while going 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. The under is 4-0-1 in Penguins last 5 home games while Pittsburgh are 1-10 in their last 11 vs. Eastern Conference and 1-6 in their last 7 overall. The Rangers are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. No line is out but the Rangers will be favored so pleas check back…
