The Montreal Canadiens head to the Sunshine State hoping for better fortunes versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Montreal Canadiens were looking to even their series with visiting Tampa Bay on Sunday night but instead find themselves in an 0-2 hole heading to Tampa for game three after a 6-2 defeat. The Canadiens need a shift in momentum as they fell to 0-7 against the Lightning this season. Things began well enough for the Habs with an early 1-0 lead but the scoring and defense struggled from that point on. Tom Gilbert and Jeff Petry scored for Montreal while the potent offense of TB got the best of Carey Price who was charged with all six goals with just 18 stops to take the loss.

The Tampa Bay Lightning spotted Montreal an early goal before roaring back for a 6-2 win and a 2-0 series lead heading back home for game three Wednesday night. The Lightning won the opener 2-1 in double overtime but made sure this one was in the books early with a three goal second giving the visitors a 4-1 lead. Nikita Kucherov, Valtteri Filppula and Victor Hedman each lit the lamp with the man advantage while Kucherov added a goal at even strength. JT Brown also scored with Steven Stamkos netting his first in the playoffs in the Lightning’s 9th contest. Ben Bishop was strong between the pipes with a 27 stop effort for the win.
I could list all the trends for these two teams but the bottom line is Montreal needs to win a game versus the Lightning which is being the master of the obvious. Keys for game three for the Lightning is to be productive on the power play which was 0-25 before producing three goals in game number two and continue what they have been doing because it’s been working. The Habs might have to come up with a different game plan but what is the question. No line or goalies are announced but I have to look at Tampa Bay in some form but please check back…
