The Montreal Canadiens look to avoid the sweep when they take the ice at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
The Montreal Canadiens scoring has been down and their defense and goaltending has not been enough to overcome Tampa Bay. The Canadiens fell to the Lightning 2-1 on Wednesday night and are now staring at a 3-0 series deficit. No loss is a good one but this was a tough defeat to swallow with Tampa Bay scoring with less then two seconds remaining in regulation when overtime seemed like a sure thing. Brendan Gallagher erased a 1-0 hole with his tally near the ten minute mark of the third but that was the only offense despite a 31 shot effort. Carey Price absorbed the loss with 17 saves but the game winner he allowed in literally the last second will be tough to forget.
USA TODAY Sports
After a tough series against the Red Wings which was inconsistent from a Tampa Bay Lightning perspective, the team has been in the right place at the right time in virtually every situation in taking a 3-0 series lead against Montreal. Game three’s finish was the very definition of this statement when Tyler Johnson took a pass from Victor Hedman and fired the puck through the five hole of Carey Price with a mere 1.1 seconds remaining to send his team in to Thursday’s game four just one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference finals. Alex Killhorn scored the other goal for Tampa Bay in the opening period while Ben Bishop was outstanding with a 30 stop effort to get the win.
The over is 7-1-1 in Canadiens last 9 Thursday games while Montreal are 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 overall. The Lightning are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and are 4-0 in their last 4 overall while going 4-0 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning record. The over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings in Tampa Bay and the Canadiens are 0-7 in the last 7 meetings while the road team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings. No line is out yet but I’m looing at Tampa Bay right now but please check back…
