The Tampa Bay Lightning hope to advance to the conference finals with a win in game five at the Montreal Canadiens.
The Tampa Bay Lightning were the odds on favorite to win game number four and sweep the Montreal Canadiens. However their domination in this match up ended with a thud in a 6-2 loss to the Habs in game four. The Lightning have had the Canadiens number this season with eight consecutive victories but their offense stalled Thursday and the goaltending and defense were overmatched. Ben Bishop was a non factor between the pipes with three goals allowed on 14 shots before getting the hook in favor of Andrei Vasilevskiy who gave up three goals on 26 shots. Tampa Bay received power play tallies from Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov.

The Montreal Canadiens have dug themselves a deep hole and it remains if they can dig themselves out. The Canadiens took the first step in Thursday’s 6-2 rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning to narrow the series to 3-1 with game five scheduled for the Bell Centre on Saturday. There was no blown lead or last second goals as the Habs scored early and often and looked like the team that was leading the series. Max Pacioretty paced the attack with a goal and a pair of helpers while David Desharnais, Andrei Markov, Jeff Petry, Brandon Prust and Brenden Gallagher also lit the lamp. Carey Price recorded 22 stops to snap a season long eight game slide to Tampa Bay and return the series to the Bell Centre on Saturday.
The Canadiens are 1-4 in their last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Lightning are 5-1 in their last 6 overall and are 11-1 in their last 12 Conference Semifinals games. The Canadiens are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings and the road team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. The Habs have a chance to make Tampa Bay squirm with another win but I want to see a line before I decide what to do so please check back…
