The Washington Capitals travel to Madison Square Garden to play a game seven with the New York Rangers.
Scoring was plentiful in game six on Sunday but the Washington Capitals were on the wrong end of the 4-3 outcome that knotted the series with the Rangers 3-3 and forced a decisive game seven. The Capitals late scoring burst made New York squirm but the Caps never led and their defense struggled. Washington trailed 2-0, 3-1 and 4-1 with the late rally simply bringing hope to the Verizon Center but not a victory. Jason Chimera scored in the second while Joel Ward and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored less then three minutes apart late in the third to close a 4-1 deficit. Braden Holtby struggled between the pipes with four goals allowed on 28 shots.

The New York Rangers were left for dead when Washington took what seemed like a commanding 3-1 series lead. It’s not so commanding now as the Rangers have stormed back to tie the series with a decisive game seven scheduled for Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. The New Yorkers finally found their offense while the defense was airtight until late so the question is whether this ‘scorefest’ was a one time thing or will it carry over to game seven. Chris Kreider paced the attack with a pair of goals with Rick Nash and Dan Boyle also lighting the lamp. Henrik Lundqvist recorded 42 saves to get the win and avoid elimination once again.
