The conference finals continue to roll along in the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. We’ve got another game out west coming up tonight, so before we settle in for that one let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there right now.
Tyler Johnson, C, Tampa Bay Lightning: After a confidence-boosting win in Game 1, the Rangers were flat-out embarrassed on their home ice last night in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Lightning.
Johnson logged a hat trick on six shots, leading the charge to a 6-2 victory and a 1-1 series tie. This was Johnson’s fourth multi-goal game of the playoffs so far.
Alex Killorn (two goals; assist) and Nikita Kucherov (three goals) each had three points as well. Steven Stamkos logged a goal and a helper, while Ben Bishop came up with 35 saves.
Oddly enough, the Rangers simply don’t play well in Game 2s. They’re 2-10 in that situation since 2012, and 1-7 after winning Game 1.
Game 3 in this one will be tomorrow night in Tampa.
The Blackhawks are toying with the idea of making a change on defense for tonight’s Game 2 against the Ducks.
With Michal Rozsival out injured, David Rundblad had a tough Game 1 against Anaheim. As a result, many sources close to the situation are anticipating coach Joel Quenneville will put Kyle Cumiskey in Rundblad’s place.
The Blackhawks are going to have to do something different on defense. The Ducks have begun to implement their plan of wearing down defenders with an intimidating forecheck, and it was working well in Game 1. We’ll see how Chicago adjusts tonight.
NHL Daily Schedule: Here’s a look at the upcoming games on the NHL schedule, including the start times and TV networks where you can catch each matchup.
