The 2015 NHL Stanley Cup Finals are officially off and running, so we hockey fans will have plenty to talk about over the coming days. That said, let’s check out our daily headlines from the notable places around the league.
Teuvo Teravainen, C, Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks struck first in the Stanley Cup Finals last night, logging a 2-1 victory over the Lightning in Tampa. Teravainen assisted on one goal and scored the other--each coming less than two minutes apart in the third period.
On the defensive side, Corey Crawford made 22 saves on 23 shots. Alex Killorn scored for Tampa Bay.
It was a good start to what’s bound to be an exciting series. Game 2 will be Saturday night at Amalie Arena.

The Capitals inked winger Garrett Mitchell to a two-year, two-way deal this week. He hasn’t yet played in an NHL game, but does have extensive experience with the AHL club in Hershey.
Mitchell put up four goals and four assists with 121 PIM last year. He’s a long-shot to make the Caps roster in training camp, but anything’s possible.
Moving over to Philly, the Flyers’ R.J. Umberger is getting back to normal after a March 19 surgery on his hip/abdominal area.
Umberger missed out on the last 13 games of the 2014-15 season, finishing off an unimpressive campaign that yielded just 15 points in 67 games. He’ll be looking to get back on track this season at 100 percent health.
NHL Daily Schedule: Here’s a look at the upcoming games on the NHL schedule, including the start times and TV networks where you can catch each matchup.
