The Line: Boston Bruins / Winnipeg Jets --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Jets look to start the season with a road win as they head into Boston to take on a new look Bruins team at the Garden.
The Jets finally broke through their playoff barrier last season and while we were treated to some pretty raucous crowds in Winnipeg during their first round series with the Ducks it was short lived as the Jets were bounced in four games and were the first team eliminated from the postseason. However, with the sting of an early exit and expectations high once again you can bet the Jets are itching to get going and a trip to Boston against a Bruins team without some familiar faces this season is a good place to start. The Jets are led up front by the line of Bryan Little, Andrew Ladd, and Blake Wheeler and while those guys aren't likely to finish in the top 10 in league scoring they are a pretty formidable line and will outwork you on the ice and that seems to be the mantra of this Winnipeg team and city. The Jets will have an interesting dilemma in goal once again with the emergence of Mike Hutchinson last year and the boom or bust play of Ondrej Pavelec but to start off it looks as though the Jets are going with the latter as Pavelec will square off against Tuukka Rask.

The Bruins are always an interesting team to assess when a new season begins and this one is no different as gone are long time B's Milan Lucic, Dougie Hamilton, and GM Peter Chiarelli and in are the likes of Matt Beleskey and Jimmy Hayes. Boston returns some key pieces like David Krejci, Brad Marchand, and Loui Eriksson as well as Zdeno Chara and Torey Krug on the blue line and Rask between the pipes. The B's play in a tough division that includes the Lightning, Red Wings, and Canadiens and frankly I think they will be hard pressed to beat any of those teams for a divisional berth but they could surprise some and land a wild card berth. However, with Chara's play seemingly regressing with age and the absence of an identity thanks to the departure of Lucic I think the Bruins will have a tough season despite Patrice Bergeron remaining one of the game's best. Neither of these teams have a potent offense and in fact both teams have pretty strong blue lines and goaltending so I think the best play here is on the under as it should pull through without issue.
