The New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets meet Friday night at the Nationwide Arena.
The New York Rangers are coming off a Wednesday victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Rangers scored three goals in their season opener and spoiled the celebration for the defending Stanley Cup champions. J.T. Miller leads New York with two points, Kevin Klein scored one of the Rangers’ goals and Rick Nash leads the way with four shots on goal. Of course, the Rangers relied heavily on arguably the best goalie in the business, as Henrik Lundqvist blocked 32 of 34 shots and held the Blackhawks scoreless in the third period. The New York Rangers have now won five straight regular season road games.

The Columbus Blue Jackets look to get back to the playoffs after coming up short after 42 victories last season. The Blue Jackets finished last year ranked 12th in the league with an average of 2.77 goals per game. Nick Foligno returns after leading Columbus with 31 goals, Scott Hartnell had 32 assists and Ryan Johansen had 202 shots on goal. Defensively, the Columbus Blue Jackets were 25th in the league with an average of 3.02 goals allowed per game. Sergei Bobrovsky and Curtis McElhinney will continue to hold down the fort for the Blue Jackets at goalie. Josh Anderson is doubtful with an eye injury.
The Rangers are 21-6 in their last 27 road games and 35-16 in their last 51 games playing on 1 days rest. The Blue Jackets are 6-0 in their last 6 home games and 16-5 in their last 21 overall. The Rangers are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Rangers have been road warriors for a while now and have kept that reputation this season with already a big victory over the defending champs. The Blue Jackets and their season opener at home will be another tough test for New York, but I like what I'm seeing from the Rangers.
