The Verizon Center and the Washington Capitals play host to the Carolina Hurricanes in Saturday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes were off to a disappointing 0-3 start and didn’t relish a trip to the Motor City to face the Detroit Red Wings Friday night. It turned out to be Detroit’s bad fortune with the Canes coming away with a 5-3 victory for their first win while saddling the Wings with loss number one. Gustav Nyquist, Teemu Pulkkinen and Riley Sheahan supplied the Detroit scoring with Jimmy Howard stopping 31 shots. Eric Staal, Kris Versteeg, Justin Faulk, Chris Terry and Brock McGinn led the Hurricanes scoring spree with Cam Ward brushing aside 17 shots to get the win.

The Washington Capitals were looking for a bit of momentum after getting smacked around in a 5-0 loss to San Jose. The Capitals found some in a 4-1 victory versus the Chicago Blackhawks at the Verizon Center on Thursday night. Braden Holtby was outstanding between the pipes with 26 stops with Viktor Svedberg scoring the lone goal for the Blackhawks while Scott Darling absorbed the loss with a 20 stop effort. The balanced Washington attack saw TJ Oshie, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson light the lamp to help the Caps improve to 2-1-0-0 on the young season.

The under is 8-1-3 in Hurricanes last 12 games playing on 0 days rest. And the Hurricanes are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference while going 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan. The Hurricanes are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and the over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings while the road team is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings. I favor Washington for now until I see goalies…
