The NHL will be taking its proverbial foot off the gas pedal tonight, with just one game on the schedule after a packed weekend. We’ve got plenty to talk about in the meantime, however, so let’s visit with some of the notable players out there in the headlines.

Lee Stempniak, RW, New Jersey Devils: The Devils are no longer winless, as they got their first victory yesterday against the flailing Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Stempniak bagged the game-winner in overtime, while Cory Schneider anchored the defense on 26 saves.
New Jersey is now 1-3-1 on the season. They lost their first trio of games this season by a combined 11-5 score.

Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, St. Louis Blues: Yesterday’s Blues-Jets matchup at MTS Centre was a good one for fans of the game, as it contained 51 combined hits. Tarasenko was the big star here, logging two goals on six shots in the 4-2 win.
Ondrej Pavelec was busy on the other side with 37 saves on 41 shots.
The Blues move to 5-1-0 on the year and have won four straight games on their six-game road trip.

Anton Khudobin, G, Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks haven’t done too well in the scoring department lately, but they put a stop to that last night in a 4-1 win over the Wild at Honda Center.
Khudobin was solid in goal with 34 saves on 35 shots. He got some help on offense this time following a stint of just one goal in three games for the Ducks. Anaheim is now 1-3-1 on the year.

Tyler Toffoli, C, Los Angeles Kings: Toffoli tallied the game-winner in the Kings’ 2-1 victory over the Avalanche last night at Staples Center, a breakaway score late in the second.
Marian Gaborik posted the other goal for the Kings, while Jonathan Quick logged 20 saves in goal.
That’s two wins in a row for L.A., who opened the season with three straight losses.
