October 21, 2015
We’re coming off a pretty busy seven-game set in the NHL, and there are four more matchups to look forward to this evening. While we’re waiting on those, let’s check out some of the notable players in the headlines today.
Adam Larsson, D, New Jersey Devils: Larsson posted his first goal of the season last night, and was it ever a big one. His was the decisive goal 43 seconds into overtime against the Coyotes, giving the Devils a 3-2 win.
Travis Zajac had a goal and two assists, while Cory Schneider managed 18 saves.
That’s two straight wins for the 2-3-1 Devils.

Jaroslav Halak, G, NY Islanders: Halak was on point last night against the Blue Jackets, posting 37 saves on 37 shots in a 4-0 shutout. It was his first of the season.
The Isles have now won four in a row and stand at 4-1-1.
Nikolay Kulemin, Thomas Hickey, Cal Clutterbucks and John Tavares each had one of the team’s goals.
As for the Blue Jackets, they’ve lost seven straight to start the year.
Antti Niemi, G, Dallas Stars: Niemi had a strong game last night against the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. He came up with 34 saves in a 2-1 victory to give the Stars their fourth straight.
Jamie Benn also played well, logging a goal and an assist. He’s got six goals to lead the NHL. The Stars are now 5-1-0 on the year, while the Flyers fall to 2-2-1 thus far.
Evgeny Kuznetsov, C, Washington Capitals: Kuznetsov posted three assists in the Capitals’ 6-2 win over the Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome last night, but his line was overshadowed by teammate Alex Ovechkin’s career milestone. Ovechkin posted a gol and an assist to reach the 900-point mark in his career. He’s the first player in Capitals history to get that many.
On the other side, Calgary falls to 1-5-0 with the loss.
