October 22, 2015
We’ve got a pretty busy evening of NHL action ahead of us, so there will be plenty to keep our attention in the coming hours. In the meantime, let’s take our daily look at the headlines and see what everyone’s up to out there.
Evander Kane, LW, Buffalo Sabres: We had a five-round shootout between the Sabres and Maple Leafs, with Buffalo ending up on top. Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson scored in the shootout, with Kane logging one in regulation on the way to a 2-1 victory.
That gives the Sabres a 2-4-0 record, while the Leafs end up at 1-3-2 despite a 34-save effort from Jonathan Bernier.

Claude Giroux, C, Philadelphia Flyers: Giroux led the Flyers to an intense 5-4 victory, scoring once in regulation and again in overtime for the game-winner at TD Garden. That win ends a six-game losing streak the Flyers had against the Bruins and puts them at 3-2-1 on the year.
Patrice Bergeron had a goal and an assist, while David Krejci managed a pair of helpers for the Bruins.
Cam Talbot, G, Edmonton Oilers: Talbot had a nice game against the Red Wings at Rexall Place last night. He came up with 28 saves on 29 shots, helping his team to a 3-1 victory. Connor McDavid also scored his first goal at home, which is a big milestone for him.
Edmonton has now won three games in a row after dropping their first four. The Wings move to 3-3-0.
Cam Ward, G, Carolina Hurricanes: We had an overtime affair at Pepsi Center between the Hurricanes and the Avalanche last night. Ward came up with a shutout on 26 saves, with Victor Rask bagging the game-winner in the extra period.
The 1-0 victory sends the ‘Canes to 2-4-0 on the year. The Avs fall to 2-3-1 and are 1-2-1 in their first four home games.
