The Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to town Saturday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs never got their offense going in a 2-1, shootout loss at Buffalo on Wednesday. The Maple Leafs drew first blood on PA Parenteau’s opening period tally but the offensive could get anything else. Jonathan Bernier was solid between the pipes with a 34 save effort but that couldn’t prevent Toronto from falling to 1-3-2. The Sabres were held off the scoreboard until Evander Kane’s high wrist shot beat Bernier with just 4:29 remaining in regulation Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson scored in the shootout to make a winner of Chad Johnson’s 23 stop effort that upped Buffalo to 3-4.

The Montreal Canadiens had the perfect opponent on paper to stay unbeaten at Buffalo who is struggling to find their offense. Things went exactly as planned in a 7-2 rout as they scored for 60 minutes and held the Sabres attack in check to up their record to 8-0 and remain as the only unbeaten squad. Five players scored with Dale Weiss and Brendan Gallagher scoring two times with Max Pacioretty and Torrey Mitchell also lighting the lamp while Andrei Markov scored and totaled four assists. Max Condon recorded 34 stops to get the win. The Sabres received goals from Ryan O’Reilly and Matt Moulson but Chad Johnson was charged with all seven goals.
