The Avalanche look to build on their 2-1 win in Tampa Bay last night as they head into Raleigh to battle a Canes team coning off their own impressive win against the Islanders.
The Colorado Avalanche are off to a slow start sitting with a 3-5-1 mark through their first nine contests and despite their win against Tampa last night they haven't looked like the team many expected them to be this season. The Avs have teetered back and forth in Patrick Roy's first two seasons having gone from playoff surprises to underachievers in the span of a season and now with some pieces another year along and some additions in the off season it is expected they get back to the postseason and compete in the Central. Colorado does have the pieces to go on a divisional title chase but they need to pick it up now or else they will fall too far behind the top teams in the league and have to settle for a wild card position at best. Semyon Varlamov will get the start between the pipes for Colorado as he will go up against Cam Ward.

The Hurricanes meanwhile have won back to back games and look like they could be turning a corner and returning home to face off against an underachieving Avs team could be a great spot for them heading into the weekend. Carolina isn't expected to be a factor in the Metro division this season and will likely land a top five draft pick in the off season but for the time being you can ride the hot hand in spot starts if you're so inclined. However, I am on the other side of the coin here as I think the Avs are the better team and coming off a big win last night I think build on that and take this one as a road dog.
