The NHL is extremely busy today, with a whopping 13 matchups on the schedule this afternoon and evening. While we’re waiting on those, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the headlines.

Brandon Saad, LW, Columbus Blue Jackets: Saad came up with a goal and an assist on three shots against the Penguins last night at Consol Energy Center. His efforts led to a 2-1 victory.
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky put up 28 saves in the win, while Patric Hornqvist scored for the Penguins on the other side.
Columbus is now 5-12-0, while the Pens sit at 10-6-0.

Sean Monahan, C, Calgary Flames: Monahan got to play the hero last night against the Capitals, posting a pair of goals in a 3-2 overtime victory.
Karri Ramo posted his seventh straight start here, with 34 saves on 36 shots. He’s 4-3-0 in that span.
Calgary is now 6-11-1 on the season, while the Caps sit at 11-4-1.

Joe Pavelski, C, San Jose Sharks: Pavelski got a goal last night against the Red Wings at Joe Lewis Arena, helping his team to a 3-2 victory. Melker Karlsson and Matt Nieto also bagged goals while Martin Jones held down the defense with 26 saves.
San Jose had just 14 shots on goal, but made them count. They’re now 8-8-0 on the season, while the Red Wings fall to 8-7-1. Pavel Datsyuk made his season debut here after recovering from ankle surgery.

Frans Nielsen, C, NY Islanders: The Islanders managed a big win against the Ducks last night at Honda Center. Nielsen scored twice in the 4-1 victory, giving him seven goals on the season.
Brock Nelson and Cal Clutterbuck scored the other two goals for the Isles, who are now 9-6-3 on the year. They won two of the three games on their California road trip.
