The Capitals look to get back in the win column after an overtime loss in their last outing as they host the Red Wings at the Verizon Center on Tuesday.
The Detroit Red Wings head into the nation's capital looking to spoil the party and earn a big time victory against one of the league's best but they know they'll be in tough especially with the Caps coming off a loss. The Wings are in the mix in the Atlantic division with 34 points in 27 games and are 7-0-3 heading into tonight's game yet their play on the road has them as huge underdogs in this spot despite only trailing the Caps by four points in the league standings. Jimmy Howard will likely get the call as he will go up against Braden Holtby. The Wings are 6-3-1 on the road this season while the Capitals are 10-3-1 at home.

The Caps head into action on Tuesday looking to close the gap on the New York Rangers for the Metro division lead and the Conference lead held by the Montreal Canadiens. Washington has been among the league's best all season and trail the Rangers by a single point for top spot in the Metro but with three games in hand and the Blue Shirts seemingly slowing down it is a great time for the Caps to start their surge. Washington to me is the favourite to win the East and while there is plenty of hockey left to be played they can make a statement here against one of the perennial Cup contenders in Detroit and while I don't like the line I do think Washington gets the win.
