The Vancouver Canucks had been mired in a five game slide before giving the Rogers Arena crowd something to cheer about in a 5-2 win versus the visiting Buffalo Sabres. Radim Vrbata led the offensive explosion with his first hat trick as a member of the Canucks while Brandon Prust and Henrik Sedin also scored. Ryan Miller picked up the win with a 32 stop effort against his old team. The Sabres offense was held to goals from Sam Reinhart and Brian Gionta lighting the lamp but Linus Ullmark couldn’t hold down Vancouver with 26 saves saddling the team with consecutive defeats.

The Calgary Flames came up big with a 4-2 victory versus the San Jose Sharks at the Scotiabank Saddledome Tuesday night to give the team their third win in a row which is a season high. The Flames extended their home winning streak to seven games with Sean Monahan, Michael Frolik and Markus Granlund scoring while Mikeal Backlund lit the lamp and added an assist. Mark Giordano added a pair of helpers to make a winner of Karri Ramo and his 31 saves to lift the team to 11-14-2. The Sharks stumbles continued with Joe Thornton and Chris Tierney scoring but that wasn’t enough to prevent a 4th straight defeat with Martin Jones allowing three goals on 14 shots before Alex Stalock came in and finished with 18 saves.
