The Penguins head into Boston on Wednesday night looking to snap out of their losing skid while the Bruins look to stay hot and climb up the Atlantic division standings.
The Penguins weren't the first team to fire their head coach this season but perhaps are the most surprising group to do so as expectations were sky high for them and thoughts of turmoil and personnel changes at this point in the season were certainly not in the cards. However, a 15-11-3 record to start the season that is mired 3-4-3 slump in their last 10 has them playing catch up in the Metro division and at risk of missing the playoffs entirely. The Pens are in further disarray as they will now lean on Jeff Zatkoff in the crease as Marc-Andre Fleury will be out for at least a week and while Zatkoff has proven he can step in and produce victories he is facing a tall task in this one as the Bruins are 6-1-3 in their last 10 games and have been playing very well of late.
USA TODAY Sports
The Bruins are a modest 6-7-2 at home this season but their staggering 10-2-2 mark on the road has them in the mix in the Atlantic division and if they can get a win here against a Penguins team dealing with a bag full of issues they should be in the clear to keep their winning ways afloat. Boston is a scary team when they are clicking and while they don't have some key pieces from their core from the last few seasons they still have plenty of weapons at both ends of the rink and if Tuukka Rask can steal a few games the rest of the way the Bruins could very well challenge for the division crown. As for tonight, their home record is a concern but I think the Bruins are the favourite here and until the Pens can sort some things out they will be on auto fade.
