The Verizon Center and the Washington Capitals welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning to DC.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are banged up so that made Tuesday’s 5-4, overtime win at the Air Canada Centre versus the Toronto Maple Leafs a little sweeter. The Lightning rallied from a 3-1 deficit to raise their record to 16-13-3. Vladislav Namestnikov tallied 2:01 in to the extra session to win it but he had plenty of help at the offensive end of the ice. Jonathan Marchessault, Mike Blunden, Anton Stalman and Nikita Kucherov also lit the lamp with the win going to Andrej Vasilevskiy and his 33 stops. The Maple Leafs had no problem scoring with James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Daniel Winnik and Morgan Reilly picking up goals but Jonathan Bernier was charged with all five goals on 27 shots with Toronto dropping to 10-13-6.

The surging Washington Capitals added another game to the win column in a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. The Capitals saw John Carlson and Michael Latta supply Braden Holtby with all the support he needed with a solid 26 save performance to lift the Capitals to 22-6-1. Holtby has largely been responsible for the Capitals success with a league high 20 wins. Washington is now 8-1-1 in their last ten contests and have the best record in the East. Washington led 2-0 before Bobby Ryan scored with just over four minutes remained in regulation but the Senators could not net the equalizer. Andrew Hammond wound up with the loss despite 23 stops as the Sens fell to 16-11-5.
The Lightning are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and are 4-1 in their last 5 road games while the under is 16-5 in Lightning last 21 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The under is 3-0-4 in Capitals last 7 overall and is 2-0-3 in Capitals last 5 vs. Atlantic while going 2-0-4 in Capitals last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Lightning are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings and the over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Washington while going 17-5 in the last 22 meetings. I am leaning to the Caps here if Holtby is confirmed…
