December 21, 2015
We’ve got just two more days to get our NHL fix, as the league will be going dark for three days this week around the Christmas holiday. While we’re waiting on tonight’s eight-game set, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations around the league.
Jaromir Jagr, RW, Florida Panthers: Jagr moved into fourth place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list yesterday, with a goal and an assist in the Panthers’ 5-4 shootout win over the Canucks at BB&T Center.
Jagr now has 732 goals in his illustrious career, which puts him one ahead of Marcel Dionne. He scored with just over 11 seconds left in the first period.
The Panthers have won four straight games and sit at 18-12-4 on the year.

Jonas Gustavsson, G, Boston Bruins: Gustavsson was locked into a goalie battle with the Devils’ Cory Schneider, and it took a shootout to determine a winner. Gustavsson logged 29 saves, while Schneider put up 38. The Bruins got the win 2-1 however, putting them on a nice pace at 11-1-3 in their past 14 outings.
Ryan Spooner scored the only shootout tally, and Loui Eriksson scored in the first period.
Overall, the Devils are 16-13-5 on the year.
Nikita Nesterov, D, Tampa Bay Lightning: Nesterov put three shots on goal yesterday against the Senators at Amalie Arena, getting one through during a 5-2 Lightning victory.
Steven Stamkos scored twice, and Mike Angelidis and Alex Killorn provided the other goals.
The Lightning have won three of their past four games, and they sit at 17-14-3 on the year. As for Ottawa, they’re 17-12-5 so far.
Justin Williams, RW, Washington Capitals: At the start of the second period at the Garden last night, the Rangers were up on the Capitals 3-1 and looked to be playing pretty well. The Caps turned on the jets in the final two periods, however, and pummeled New York for a 7-3 victory.
Williams put up two goals and an assist, while Nicklas Backstrom had three helpers. Marcus Johansson also had three points on a goal and two assists.
This was Washington’s fifth win in a row. They’re 24-6-2 and ahead of New York in the division by eight points.
