The Capitals head into Buffalo on Monday looking to win their eighth game in a row and extend their Eastern Conference best record to 27-6-2 this season.
The Washington Capitals have been on an absolute tear this season and finally look like the team ready to hoist the Stanley Cup after so many years of knocking on the door only to be denied. This group is different though as they rely on a total team game for their success and not just on Alex Ovechkin, and with a solid defense, a goaltender looking like the favourite to win the Vezina, and a coach in Barry Trotz that has a winning pedigree they look like a dangerous group and should be considered a favourite to win the Eastern Conference. They head into Buffalo on Monday looking for their 13th road win this season as Braden Holtby will face off against Chad Johnson.

The Sabres meanwhile have been as expected so far this season as they are better than last year but not quite where they need to be to make a push to the playoffs as they sit in seventh place in the Atlantic division. Buffalo is a game under .500 both on the season and at home so far but they have an exciting core that will be around for years as Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, and Rasmus Ristolainen have impressed this season and moving forward the Sabres are going to be a tough team to beat. This is a tough game as the Sabres should get waxed on paper but it is very tough to win eight games in a row in the NHL so we are sort of at a crossroad. In the end I think the better play is the total as Holtby should be lights out once again and if Buffalo has any shot they will have to keep it low scoring.
